A Note from the Founder
Welcome to Sunshine Typewriter Poets. This collective was founded with the intention of bringing together those who enjoy the clickety-clack of an old-fashioned typewriter and the spontaneity of on-the-spot poetry.
I repair typewriters and when I share this with people, they often say, “Typewriters? Wait, what?”
Typewriters never went away, though. Just as people still play records on a turntable, and collect vintage radios, people still love typewriters. And people still use typewriters!
You’ll find typewriter poets, too. In Miami, I repaired typewriters for the O, Miami Poetry Festival for their poetry events. I did the same for the Miami Book Fair. I also loaned a few of my own machines for this purpose. Typewriter poets set up at events (I love writing typewriter poetry at St. Augustine Poet Fest) or you might find them tapping away at a farmer’s market.
Those who love typewriters and poetry are everywhere. You just have to know where to look.
My goal with Sunshine Typewriter Poets is to somehow bring together this group of typewriter-loving folks. This is a new collective. Please subscribe to the Substack and stay tuned as we grow.
